Gates of Fire By Elwyn Chamberlain Review
Gates of Fire by Elwyn Chamberlain is a novel which has been penned with the essence of India and the core Indian culture.
The Story
Though the novel starts with drugs in New York but gradually moves to India. This novel has all for which India is known around the globe. It has the Indian spiritual system, making the reader travel with the author from Delhi to Rishikesh to Haridwar etc. To the business centre Mumbai and to Bangalore.
The author has beautifully netted the spiritual India with the political India. Further in the novel the underworld of Mumbai is introduced with interesting detail. The ashrams of southern India have been written with such a precise detail that one imagines being a part of them.
Characters
The characters of the novel have all the guts to carry the reader along with them to the places they are traveling in India. When one of the characters is performing religious ritual at the banks of Holy Ganga, the reader is made to stand next to him.
The language of the novel is easy to understand. The words and the phrases are used with extreme care helping the reader to keep in pace with the story.
In short the novel is worth reading to understand India which is not known to many of the Indian also.
