This article deals with the news of announcement made by the Blackberry manufacturer RIM (Research in Motion) to cut down the prices of its four smartphone models in India. RIM’s largest selling Blackberry model will cost 18 per cent less at Rs.8999. The price of Blackberry model Torch 9860 has been lowered by 26.5 per cent. Torch 9860 is now priced at Rs. 21990. The prices of two other models Curve 9360 and Curve 9380 have also been brought down. So, this is the right time to buy Blackberry phones.
Blackberry prices lowered to face competition from other smartphone makers
There are four major players in the smartphone market of India, which is voluminously growing day by day. These big competitors for Blackberry manufacturer RIM (Research in Motion) are Apple Inc's iPhones, high-end devices on Google Inc's Android platform and handset makers Samsung and others foreign and Indian handset makers. The latest news is that
RIM has lowered prices of its Blackberry smartphones up to 27 per cent.
This action has been initiated by the RIM to boost sales of its Blackberry smartphones. RIM has executed this move in the face of its loss making news for the first time in a seven years time. This is Blackberry's first slump since 2006. The second factor for RIM to make this decision is that the company wants its famous Blackberry smartphones to compete with other smartphones in India, which is the second largest mobile phones market in the world.
Opportune time for smartphone buyers to buy Blackberry smartphones
RIM has announced
cut down of prices of four Blackberry smartphone models.
The announcement includes the reduction in price of the entry level Blackberry Curve 8520. It must be noted that Blackberry
Curve 8520 is the best-selling Blackberry smartphone in India
. Four models of Blackberry smartphones that have been affected by the price reduction contribute for about 60 per cent of the Blackberry smartphones sales in the Indian market. The company must have taken a note of the popularity of the Blackberry smartphone among the youth whose population is growing in India. Sunil Dutt, the managing director for RIM's Indian operations said in a telephonic interview, "
The price cuts are aimed at making the phones "more accessible to a wider number of consumers in India.
Of course, RIM does not make public its country specific shipment figures. However, it has been estimated by India's CyberMedia Research that RIM was ranked third last year. RIM's share of smartphone market was 15 per cent which behind Nokia's 38 per cent and Samsung's 28 per cent. RIM needed the much-needed boost in sales of its Blackberry in India since its share in the Indian smartphone market has touched as low as 6 per cent of the total handset sales. This is common fact that Indian market of mobile phones is highly price sensitive.
Rim has cut down the maximum retail price of its most selling smartphone Curve 8520 model by 18 per cent. The
Curve 8520 will now be priced Rs.8999
. The other Blackberry Model Torch 9860 has been lowered in price by 26.7 per cent. The
lowered price of Torch 9860 is Rs.21,990.
The other two models from RIM, Curve 9360 and Curve 9380 have also been affected by price reduction. However, the actual reduction in the price of these models has not been told in the news. As such, it is the opportune time for the smartphone lovers especially the Blackberry fans to grab the opportunity and buy their favourite Blackberry smartphones at cheap rates.
