This article deals with the announcement by India’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) of new version of its existing entry level sedan Swift D’Zire. The new car has been short sized to less than four metres to save on 10-12% of excise duty making it cheaper by Rs.25,000 to Rs.30,000 than the existing version. The car has been added with new looks and about 150 additional features to attract the customers. The new Maruti Swift D’Zire will be available both in petrol and diesel versions.
Maruti launches the shorter version of Swift DZire to save on excise duty
• Maruti Suzuki India Limited originally launched its
entry level sedan
Swift Dzire in 2008. Within three years, it has now launched the latest version of Swift DZire to save on 10 – 12 % of excise duty. To achieve this, the company has kept the length of the new Swift DZire under 4 metres. The company also wants to recover some of its lost ground that it suffered due to labour trouble at its plant last year.
• The country's largest car maker
Maruti Suzuki India (MSI)
usually finds some excuse to launch new versions of its own cars as it did in the case of Maruti Zen when it faced tough competition from Hyundai Santro. The company is going to roll out the new Swift D'Zire from its Manesar plant.
• The latest version of Maruti Swift D'Zire has been priced between Rs.5.80 – Rs.7.09 for the diesel model and between Rs.4.79 – Rs.6.54 lakh for the petrol model. These prices are ex-show rooms in Delhi. The newer version will be cheaper by about Rs.25,000 – Rs.30,000 due to the savings on excise duty.
• The petrol version of the
new Maruti Swift D'Zire
will run with 1.2 litre engine. The diesel version of the car will be powered by a 1.3 litre engine. The petrol version of Swift D'Zire will also come with an automatic transmission variant. The new Maruti Swift D'Zire will be provided with 150 new features as compared to the existing version.
• It is reported that the Maruti Suzuki India will not completely stop the production of the old Swift D'Zire. It will continue producing the base model of the existing version by stripping down the version. The sales of this version will be targeted to the fleet segment of the corporate world.
• Maruti Suzuki India has not spelled out the waiting period for the current version of the Swift D'Zire. But by going with the present waiting period of 3 – 4 months of its existing model, the same may continue for the newer version too.
• Though the newer version of Maruti Swift D'Zire will attract new customers with improved looks and new features, it is likely to make its existing customers unhappy by rolling out the newer model so soon. Many feel that it is only the promotion push strategy of Maruti Suzuki India.
• Some critics feel that the company should have reduced the price of new Maruti Swift D'Zire to augment the sales of the vehicle.
