This article is a buying guide to help you select and purchase the best graphic card for your computer according your needs. Read on to know what types of graphic cards are available in market, the memory range of a graphic card that will suit your computer and also the performance needs if you are a gamer.
If you have a computer then sooner or later you will have to go for shopping for a graphic card. With new games and HD videos being released very other day these cards soon get old and obsolete and if you are a serious gamer then you have no other options other than
buying the latest high quality graphic card.
Within a span of 2-3 years even the most powerful graphics cards of the time become outdated. Buying a good graphic card is a straightforward business but you can also end up
purchasing a graphic card
which has loose connector type or is just not strong enough.
For these very reasons here I have compiled a list of
points to consider before buying a graphic card:
Check the connector type of your mother boards for the graphic card. Most modern motherboards use PCI-E, which is normally a white connector but there are quite number of AGP boards too. Though you will get the
best graphic card
for the PCI-E connectors only but even for the AGP you will be able to buy a decently good VGA.
Make sure that if you are planning to buy a graphic card it is for video intensive purposes like gaming, if this is not the case then you will be better off utilizing this money for buying a memory or a stronger processor for your system.
Know you budget and you requirements. Most people can do with buying a graphic card of 256 or 512 MB of main memory. This is not very costly and has sufficient capacity to store textures. If you are not going to play a game with the recent 1080p HD videos then the above mentioned graphic card configuration will do for you. For VGA, the mainstream VGA will cover all your resolution needs and will still not cost you more than $150. Know this that more than the
memory of a graphic card
, it's the
processing speed of the graphic card
that matters.
Avoid replacing the video card while the computer is still under warranty. The graphic still being new will be sufficient for most of the games and it is not worth endangering your year worth of warranty of other products due to this small graphic replacement.
Before opening the casing of CPU make sure to have someone who knows how to replace a graphic card or at least learn yourself to do this from somebody and get a guide for it, this is not something very difficult and with clear visuals you will be easily able to replace it.
Go to the manufacturer
websites for graphic cards
and read the reviews of 2-3 graphic cards to know the common problems so that you can avoid them when you ask for a graphic card at a shop. Also if you are able to find a comparison between different graphic cards then it will be a excellent idea to make your perspective broader.
As you can see for the above points,
selecting a good graphic card
is no rocket science but it is always handy to have some clear cut points for purchasing anything rather than going blindly in the market keeping your full faith of the neighbourhood computer parts dealer.
