The day of launch of Windows 8 is getting nearer. Recently Microsoft gave a sneak-peak into its latest operating system Windows 8. Here we get you some brief analysis of some features as well as the expectations that the market and Microsoft have from this OS considering the fact the sale of its Windows OS is the biggest source of income for Microsoft
As
sale of Windows OS
is the biggest source of income for Microsoft so some experts are saying that Microsoft has placed a type of bet on the whole company whereas others are saying that it is an excellent move for Microsoft. It is being seen as a step greater than even the introduction of .NET framework. Only the previous week Microsoft guys showed off the
features of Windows 8
while stressing that this is not the final name for the product but for now it will be called by this name only. Keeping in line with the growing tablet market Windows has featured a
touch-first interface
but beneath the touch based interface will be the traditional Windows style desktop. Microsoft executives showed a touch-style start screen after which users can witch to the more familiar icon based screen.
Windows 8 is being called a re-imaging of the trusted old Microsoft series and is designed to support both touch based and the mouse- keyboard based devices as well as different devices of various form factors including small tablets to larger desktop computers.
This change has got both praises and criticism from experts. There is wide spread scepticism among experts regarding this aggressive push by Microsoft into the world of touch device platforms.
Cons and problems with Windows 8
Windows 8 looks more like it is focused on the tablet market rather than its present computer based OS. This is a major risk considering that most of the profits of the company come from this operating system only.
Also since the OS looks primarily designed for the tablet its runs the risk of becoming a consumer product rather being a business product which will be a major loss for Microsoft. It looks like it has been designed keeping in mind the competition from iOS and Android.
Enterprises would do better to stick to the present Windows 7 and give Windows 8 a miss and actually this is a position endorsed by Microsoft too.
Pros and advantages of Windows 8
Though this change is bound to shift some customers away from Microsoft's base but considering the direction of the market this move is an intelligent one. To keep its competitive edge sharp Microsoft has taken a smart step of designing a multi-device compatible OS.
Microsoft has delivered on the next gen requirements of an OS by designing an OS that is light weight, used HTML 5 and the JavaScript applications.
Windows 8 will support all the existing softwares but it will definitely push developers to design applications running on HTML 5, JavaScript and other web based technologies with a clear purpose of challenging the dominance of Google in web based office and other useful apps.
It would be better to say that this move of Microsoft is better than doing nothing to enter the hand held mobile devices market.
