Announcement of Nokia to partner with Microsoft has taken the world with surprise, after all why go for WP7 OS when Android is considered a better option. Read this article to know this and a lot more!

When first I heard this news that Nokia is going for a partnership with Windows Phone OS I was extremely surprised, after why Windows and not Android? After all Android gives more freedom and is totally free. Well, the answer lies in the announcement if you read it deeply enough. Whereas other companies like Samsung and HTC are not allowed to alter the WP7 OS, Nokia is. Microsoft offered Nokia the option to update the OS which definitely Google didn't.

Android is already an established OS in the mobile market, larger much larger than WP7 which is a young and not established player and still very larger than Symbian. Though the reviews of Windows phone 7 have been positive but there has not been much of a feedback from the customer side and the companies too have given a lukewarm welcome to his OS in their handset though we can't exactly blame the companies because Android is very established brand with hard earned reputation. Now this leads to a situation where Nokia was able to negotiate with Microsoft to give it some freedom whereas with Google it was not possible because Nokia might have needed Android but there was no such reciprocal need for Google.Nokia Windows Phone 7

During a media interaction on Nokia's Capital Market Day, Nokia CEO Stephen Elop had said that with Android they did not have many options to have a final say in the Android OS and here is where the obvious choice became Windows Phone OS. And also we cannot forget that Elop too worked for Microsoft before he shifted to Nokia in 2008.

It is clear from the press release that Nokia will have a quite amount of say in the development of Windows phone OS for Nokia. During its development Nokia will be totally aware of the inside and outside of the OS whereas if they had gone for Android they would had to blindly trust Google for the development and the skins. Nokia had a much larger say with Microsoft not only during the development period but also in its updates.

These are the reasons why Nokia has opted for Microsoft and I have to say it is an excellent choice. After all no mobile phone maker can have so much of influence in the development of Android like Nokia has in Windows phone 7. So even if Nokia will no longer have to care about the development of their Symbian OS and will depend upon Microsoft they will still get to decide what they want in their mobiles as OS.

This development is not sweet news for everyone. Earlier Nokia was partnering with MeeGo for the development on an OS but the process was going too slow and now the partnership has been broken off. If it had been continued then most probably the result would have been only a single set this year. If you are a big fan off MeeGo then you can curse Nokia for all you like but if you like Nokia like me then you would approve of this step.

AS for Symbian, it has long gone out of market with the launch of iPad. It has been almost wiped out from the U.S. market and in other major markets too the customer base is decreasing because Symbian has still not developed to satisfy the demands of the touch based mobile phone user's demands and expectations. Don't think the Symbian Os is in any case a bad OS, it is a very decent OS but lacks when it comes to touch interface. Symbian has run its life course and now it is time for it to be left for open interface developers who might keep it alive for a bit longer because as far as Nokia is concerned Symbian now was a liability rather than an asset.

I have already covered the review of Windows Phone 7 which will tell you that I am in totally love with it. But after that seeing the lukewarm response from the mobile companies I was a bit afraid for its prospects. It would have been highly disappointing to see such a development go waste. HTC HD7 is a great device using WP7 (you can read the review of HTC HD7 here) but all these top companies including Samsung, HTC and Motorola don't have much of a focus for Windows phone 7 and care more about Android so it is definitely a good news for Microsoft lovers that their OS is finally getting a dedicated phone to carry its OS.

This will is a gain-gain deal for both Nokia and Microsoft and most probable chances say that it will bring good profits for both the companies and will further cement the partnership between the two companies thus giving a good competition to Android as well as top mobile companies.
