From sometime Google has been trying to improve search results for its users by blocking of content farms. This time Google has gone ahead and made a plugin to help its search engine and Chrome users block certain sites they don't want in search results. Read on to know what this is all about

From sometime Google has been trying to improve search results for its users by blocking of content farms. Basically content farms are sites which produce a large amount of content to attract traffic through search engines. Now the problem is this that many of these content farms have low quality content which if shows up in Google search results gives a bad impression to the user which can lead users away from Google which anyone can understand is the biggest fear of the giant company whose major source of income is online advertising for which the first platform is its own search engine.

Till now there has been a lot of talk about removing the low quality content of these content farms but improving the search algorithm of Google but now Google has gone ahead and created a plugin for its Chrome browser. This plugin allows users to block a certain site from showing up in its search result.

Now if this plugin not only blocks off the website but also sends a message to Google about this user action and Google will further analyze this data to see the quality of the website and decide if they want the website to show up at a lower place in the search results.

The question arises will this be successful. First of all majority of Google search users are not necessarily Chrome users and even if they are it is not necessary that they will know about this plugin. So that's overall very less data to Google for improvement.

Anyhow it is a step towards improvement and we may see more hard actions against these sites.

DuckDuck Go, a new search engine, according to its employees has an interesting strategy. According to them Google being the biggest search engine is under constant scrutiny from many authorities like the Government. Any harsh action against these content farms can lead to legal actions, but DuckDuck Go being a new search engine an easily take actions against these content farms without getting under much problem.

What all this leads to will only be clear in the future. Google is clear that they want to do the improvement by algorithm than manual blocking.

It will be interesting to see which sites will be blocked. If you want to download this plugin you can do it from chrome plugin site, the plugin is named Personal Blocklist Extension.
