This article lists a few banned medicines in India because of it's severe adverse effects.



 

A number of single drugs as well as fixed dose combinations have been banned for manufacture, marketing and distribution in India as it is found out that it's adverse effects are severe or the risks of using the drug outweigh the benefits, or if the drug is ineffective.

Still they are banned many of them are available in the market. Banned drugs and consume them causing a lot of damage to our body. So buy the medicine only if prescribed by the doctor. This article provides a few list of banned medicines in India to be aware of this kind of drugs causes serious health issues.

  • PHENYLPROPANOLAMINE:
    Commonly known as Vicks Action 500 was used in treatment of cold and cough. Banned due to increased chance of stroke.

  • ROFECOXIB and VALDECOXIB:
    Both are pain killers and were used widely for arthritis. They were withdrawn due to high risk of heart attack and stroke with their use.

  • PHENOLPHTHALEIN:
    it is a Laxative.Banned because of numerous reports of cancer.

  • ROSIGLITAZONE:
    Used in the treatment of type 2 diabetics. It has been banned due to increased risk of heart attack.

  • ANALGIN:
    This was used as a pain-killer.Banned due to increased chance of Bone marrow depress

  • SIBUTRAMINE:
    It is a weight loss pill banned due to heart related side effect.

  • CISAPRIDE:
    Acidity, constipation. banned because its usage result in irregular heartbeat.

  • ASTEMIZOLE and TERFINADINE:
    Both were used effectively in treating allergies. They were banned since they could cause a heart condition called polymorphic ventricular tachycardia and even death when used in high doses or with drugs like erythromycin, clarithromycin and ketoconazole.

  • FURAZOLIDONE:
    It was used as an antidiarrhoeal. It is banned since it could cause cancer and hence death.

  • FENFLURAMINE and DEXFENFLURAMINE:
    Both were widely used in slimming centres to treat obesity and it's banned due to reports of diseases of heart valves, fibrosis of the heart and pulmonary hypertension.

  • DROPERIDOL:
    It was used as a depressant.Banned because its usage results in irregular heartbeat.

  • QUINIODOCHLOR:
    It was used as an anti-diarrhoeal drug. Since it can cause damage to vision it was banned from the market.

  • NIMESULIDE:
    It was used as a Painkiller. since it could cause serious Liver failure it is banned from the market.

  • PIPERAZINE:
    It was used widely as an anti-worms. Banned because of its side effect resulting in nerve damage.

  • RIMONABANT:
    It was used in causing weight loss. It has been withdrawn due to serious side effects like depression, suicidal tendencies and seizures.

  • PHENFORMIN:
    Anti diabetic medicine banned as it carries a high risk of lactic acidosis.

  • OXYPHENBUTAZONE:
    It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug.With drawn from the market due to reports of Bone marrow depression.

  • NITROFURAZONE:
    It is an antibacterial cream. Banned due to report of cancer.
