Drugged Drive Preventive System

Drunken driving is one of the main causes for road accidents that take away hundreds of lives every year.

Police use breath analyzers to check for alcohol in the breath of drivers suspected of driving drunk.

A device that its inventor says will work better than the conventional breath analyzer has been designed by R.Muthukumar, a 27 year old Research Scientist at a Multinational company in Coimbatore. It is called the 'Hi-Tech Drugged Drive Preventive System for Automobiles'.

This can be fitted in the car either when the car is manufactured or later by the owner of the car.

The device comes with a sensor that analyses the breath of the driver and if it detects the smell of alcohol in his breath, it displays a message in its LCD screen that warns the driver of his drunken condition and says that he should not drive.

The inebriated driver cannot ignore the message for it gives warning signals first and if he persists in starting the car, the device automatically switches off the engine. The device gets reactivated every thirty seconds to detect alcohol in the driver's breath so the chances of the driver being tempted to drink when the car is on the move gets nullified.

When the driver is not drunk, the LCD screen displays a message that reads 'Alcohol content not detected.'

To check his vision, the driver can enter a three digit number that is displayed on the screen. After this is complete, he has to enter the code word of his car, which according to the inventor can prevent the theft of the car, too.

R.Muthukumar has already received 50 national awards for his other inventions, including a gold medal for his product 'Automatic Electric Engineering System with Hi-Tech Security System.'
